Module 5: The Garden Route

From Cape Town to Port Elizabeth - ± 920 km

Hermanus – Arinston – Kap Agulhas – Mossel Bay – Knysna – Port Elizabeth

First: Hermanus, the self-proclaimed "Whale Capital" of the World. From July to November the whales come to the local bay to give birth to their calves. Whale watching from the shore! The small town of Arniston lies close to the southernmost tip of the African continent where the Indian and the Atlantic Oceans meet. From Mossel Bay take a detour inland to Oudtshoorn an ostrich farm and the Cango Caves, before you reach the coast again at Knysna. Here it will be worthwhile to take a boat trip on the Knysna Lagoon and a visit to the Featherbed Nature Reserve. On the way to the harbour city Port Elizabeth, the fourth biggest city in the country, lies the Tsitsikamma National Park with the dramatic Storms River Mouth.
